2005 Legacy/Outback Security System Upgrade (Perimeter Alarm)
2006 Legacy/Outback/Impreza/Forester/B9 Tribeca Security Sys. Upgrade (Perimeter Alarm)
  • The 2005MY Legacy / Outback and 2006MY vehicles come standard with a security system. As an upgrade, a perimeter alarm is offered. The perimeter should be installed by a trained technician at a Subaru Dealership. If the customer decides to install this product, it must be activated by a trained technician at a Subaru dealership.
  • What does the Perimeter Alarm do? The perimeter alarm is an impact sensor that is activated 30 seconds after the vehicle alarm is armed. It has two levels, a warning and an alarm. A light impact to the vehicle will trigger the warning mode, in which the vehicle will give off two horn chirps and two light flashes. A heavy impact will trigger the vehicle alarm. The alarm system will then sound the horn and flash the lights for 60 seconds. It will then re-arm. The alarm system will re-arm 10 times and then discontinue re-arming itself to prevent battery discharge due to false alarms. The system will only re-arm if the doors and hatch are closed. Note that some after-market alarms include perimeter alarms that detect motion near or inside the vehicle. This system does not include that functionality.
  • Can I turn off the perimeter alarm? You cannot turn off the perimeter alarm independently of the alarm. Both the security system and shock sensor are disarmable without a transmitter using the following method: The door should be unlocked by the key and opened. The key should then be inserted into the ignition switch and cycled form the Lock to On position three time within five seconds.
  • Can the sensitivity be adjusted? Yes, but it must be adjusted by the dealer.

  • What is the accuracy of the compass? The accuracy is +/- 22.5 degrees due to segmentation of N,S,E,W,NE,NW,SE,and SW.
  • Why is there a deviation setting? The difference between the Geographic North and Magnetic North is the reason for deviation setting. A compass always points magnetic North. Deviation is the correction factor used to indicate true North.
  • Why does the vehicle icon blink? It blinks because the magnetic field is being lost. I.e. going through a tunnel. This will return when the field becomes uninterrupted.
  • Why is there a difference between the barometer gauge reading and the reading I here on a weather broadcast? The barometer reads true air pressure and is not corrected to sea level. “Corrected to sea level” readings are what radio stations report. Since the radio station is stationary, there is a “constant” that can be factored in so that a correction can be obtained. Since a car obviously moves, there can be no constant. This is why our gauge pack cannot correct to sea level.
  • Why does the barometer change when I open the windows? The air pressure sensor is located inside the cabin. In order to obtain the most accurate reading, the windows must be down so that atmospheric pressure can be read. If the car is closed tight, turning the A/C on, varying the blower speeds, or changing the mode door position from normal to recirc. will change the readings.
  • Why does the altitude change if the car is not moving? The altimeter uses the same sensor as the barometer does and reads indicated altitude, not true altitude. (True altitude is the same as elevation). Therefore, if weather conditions change (such as a storm rolls in) the altitude reading will change even though the car is stationary.
  • Why can’t the altimeter be more accurate? An altimeter upgrade to the next commercially available level would increase the price of the gauge pack by about 10 times.

Baja Soft Bed Cover

  • How do I care for my Bed Cover? To keep your Bed Cover Kit in good condition, clean it regularly with soap, warm water and a soft bristle brush. Rinse with clear water to remove all traces of soap. Keep snaps cleaned and lubricated with silicone. If a snap becomes stuck to a stud, use a screwdriver to GENTLY pry it apart to prevent damage to the snap or the fabric.
  • How do I store the soft section of the Bed Cover? Roll the fabric from the back to the front of the vehicle (black side up / white side down). Roll it as small as you can and secure it with the Velcro straps which are attached to the under side of the cover.
  • My cover is hard to install during cold temperatures. What do I do? Warmth will make the fabric more pliable and allow it to stretch slightly to ease installation. If the cover temperature is cold and the cover is difficult to secure, the cover can be warmed to 70 or higher.
  • Is the Bed Cover water proof? The bed cover is designed to cover the cargo area of the bed. The bed cover is water resistant, but not waterproof.
  • Can I place objects (or stand on)of the hard cover section? DO NOT use the hard cover portion of the bed cover as a step. The hard cover has the words "NO STEP NO LOAD" molded into the cover surface at two locations to remind you that it can not be used as a step.
  • Can I place objects or cargo on top of the soft sections of the bed cover? No
  • What do I do when I enter a car wash? When entering a car wash the soft cover portion of the bed cover should be stowed (rolled-up) for automated car washing.

Baja Bed Extender

  • My Bed Extender has two metal latches which are attached to black nylon straps. What are they used for? When the bed extender is in the open position (tailgate open & bed extender rotated on top of the tailgate), the latches (which have a round black locking pin) must be inserted into the gate locking latch. Press until you hear two clicks, then tighten the black nylon strap. When you want to remove the latches from the gate simply pull the (OEM) tailgate release handle (located above the license plate bracket) to disengage the tethers. When the bed extender is in the closed position (tailgate closed & bed extender rotated back into the bed), the latches (which have a thin silver or black press pin) must be inserted onto the vehicle's rear cargo hooks. When you want to remove the latches from the vehicle's rear cargo hooks, simply depress the thin latch pin to disengage the tethers.
  • Where can I find additional Bed Extender information? Please refer to your Owner's Manual.

Backup Sensor

  • What vehicles is this accessory available on? It is available for the B9 Tribeca and is applicable to all model years and models.Note: Detailed information for the Backup Sensor operation can be found in the Owners Manual included with the kit. If the kit is port installed, the manual should be placed in the glove box once the accessory has been installed in the vehicle. A trouble shooting guide (primarily for technicians or installers) is included within the installation instructions.
  • How does it work? Four sensors are mounted in the lower bumper area. They emit and receive ultrasonic signals. As the signals reflect off of objects in the detection area, an audible warning tone will be heard inside the vehicle. When the vehicle is shifted into reverse, a single tone sounds indicating that the vehicle is in reverse and the system is functioning properly. There are three “zones” (1) approximately 48 to 72 inches, (2) approximately 24 to 48 inches and (3) less than 24 inches. The system will beep according to which zone the detected object is in. Zone 1 – Slow Beep, Zone 2 - Fast Beep, Zone 3 – Solid Tone.
  • What kinds of objects can it detect? The backup sensor kit is designed primarily as a parking aid and will detect large objects. The size and shape of the object are important factors that determine whether a specific object can be detected. Generally, the system should be able to detect items as small as small bicycles or traffic cones.
  • Will I get false alarms (detections) or have objects not be detected? The backup sensor kit is designed to reduce the occurrence of false detections and detect objects that should be detected. However, there are several circumstances where these detections may occur. They include sensors covered with snow or dirt, objects too small to be detected, backing out of a steeply sloped driveway onto a level street, partial walls, or entering/exiting through a garage doorway. The system may detect the trailer hitch ball mount. If the ball mount is causing detection signals, it should be removed and stowed in the vehicle. This information is explained in more detail in the owner’s manual included with the kit.
  • What if I’m towing a trailer or want to turn the system off? The system can be turned off by a switch on the speaker (in the rear cargo area). The switch has High / Low / Off settings. Unless towing a trailer, the system should be left in the on setting.
  • When I shift into reverse, I get several beeps immediately why? When the vehicle is shifted into reverse, a single tone sounds indicating that the vehicle is in reverse and the system is functioning properly. Multiple tones indicate problems with the system and the customer should have it checked by an authorized dealer.

Satellite Radio

  • What vehicles is this accessory available on? Sirius Satellite Radio is available on 07MY Impreza and Forester vehicles with 2-din audio systems. It does not work on 06MY Vehicles. XM Satellite radio is available on all 07MY B9 Tribeca and Legacy/Outback models. It does not work on 06MY Vehicles.
  • How does it work? XM has two satellites positioned at the equator in geosynchronous orbit. There are also ground based signal repeaters installed in major metropolitan areas nationwide. Sirius has three satellites in constantly moving orbits. At any given time, only two of the three are over the US and “powered up”. There are also ground based signal repeaters installed in major metropolitan areas nationwide. Both the XM and Sirius kits include a windshield mount antenna (located in the top right corner of the windshield), a satellite radio tuner, and necessary attachment hardware with the following exceptions: * Impreza kits require a tuner mounting bracket be purchased separately. * Forester kits require both a tuner mounting bracket and replacement A-pillar trim panel be purchased separately. The tuner mounts to the vehicle under the head unit. It connects to the antenna and the vehicle head unit.
  • How do I activate the unit? You’ll need to call either XM (1-800-XM-RADIO) or Sirius (1-888-539-SIRIUS), depending on the unit that you have installed into your vehicle. You’ll also need to have your tuner serial number handy. This number can be read on the tuner box prior to installation or after the unit is installed the serial number can be obtained from the head unit by turning it on, pressing the SAT button, and tuning to channel “0”. The number should then be displayed on the screen. Prior to activation, a limited selection of “demo” channels should be accessible.
  • Why do I keep losing reception? Satellite radio signals are best received in areas with a clear view of the open sky. In areas where there are tall buildings, trees, tunnels, or other structures that may obstruct the signal of the satellites, there may be signal interruptions. Other circumstances that may result in signal loss include driving near a wall, steep cliff, hill, or driving on the lower level of a multi-tiered road or inside a parking garage. o help reduce this condition, satellite radio providers have installed ground-based repeaters in heavily populated areas. However, you may still experience reception problems in some areas.
